How to rid of windows messenger

How do I remove Windows Messenger (not MSN Messenger) after installing win xp
pro and office xp? I tried the add/remove programs and then add/remove
windows components and then unchecked the windows messenger box and finished
the process. It did not work. I rebooted the system and found windows
messenger to be still there.

I am using MSN Messenger, and windows messenger keeps getting in my way.
That is why I need to remove it.

Any suggestions?

But this does not remove the files of windows messenger. The system will
still search for the file and true it will not find it, but the system still
expends the resources to launch widows messenger as normal. Is there a way to
remove it completely?
