How to save add-ins settings?

Hi everyone,

Using Office XP.
I have several add-ins installed for Word. When I go to
'Tools->templates and Add-ins', I can check them on or off, but those
settings are not remembered by Word whenever I restart. THis is really
annoying.

I know I can put my .dot's in the Word Startup folder to guaranty it
will start, but I don't want to have to keep transfering files from one
folder to the next!

How do I get Word to remember my settings? There must be a way since it
remembers its 'default' selection.

Thanks in advance!

Do any of your customisations get saved between sessions? Do you have Adobe
Acrobat Writer v7 installed?

Add-ins will not load at startup unless they are in the Startup folder; it's
that simple. Anything else that's in the Tools | Templates and Add-ins
dialog is available to be loaded but will not be loaded automatically. The
only "default" setting for this dialog is that templates in the Startup
folder are loaded and others aren't.

Thanks guys,

Terry - no I don't have Acrobat Writer installed. I used to have the
annoying Adobe PDF template but I got rid of it by modifying the
installation.

Suzanne - Actually that's not entirely true. One of my templates that
starts automatically is located in the program's installation folder
(and there are no copies anywhere else). I noticed though that there is
a dll and and ini file with the same name as the template. Could it be
that you could make a template start automatically by registering a
DLL? Or can you make changes to the 'Normal.dot' so that it will load
certain templates at specified locations?

Thanks!

By the way, are add-ins and templates the same thing (sorry for my
ignorance, this is not my area of expertise)?

The files I have are all '.dot', in case that makes a difference.
