How to save an excel file in a html format without creating a fold

I am trying to save an excel file in a html format. When I do this (save as
webpage) a new folder is created containing file sheets etc along with the
html file. This just started last week and I do not need this folder. How
can I prevent this? When I save a word document in html this does not happen.

I also email the excel file to others but I cannot open the email attachment
without saving it to disk but have no problem doing this with a wodk html
file. The error I get is that cannot display because page etc not found. Is
this a a different issue concerning outlook?

I am using MS Office 2000 and XP with SP2.
