is my problem: Im use to saving and going back late to
continue and then save again but for some reason i cannot
save it says that its in read-only can i change that? I
know that on a floppy I can and that is what i am use to.
but becaue i got a new laptop without a floppy disc,
gateway said that i can save on a cd just like a floppy
can you help me?

thank you

No, you can't use a CD just like a floppy. Files on a CD are always
read-only. If you really want to save to CD, you'll have to give the file a
new name each time, because you can't overwrite the existing file.

For that matter, it is VERY bad practice to save Word documents directly to
floppy. Document corruption is the usual result, usually sooner rather than
later.

Always work with your document on the hard disk, then copy to floppy or CD
when you've finished.

Hi AnaMarie,

Do not try and work on a document that is on a floppy or a CD. Copy it to
the hard drive and work on it there.

Please post any further questions or followup to the newsgroups for the
benefit of others who may be interested. Unsolicited questions forwarded
directly to me will only be answered on a paid consulting basis.

Hope this helps
