How to search for document before opening

New to Word 2004/MAC: I want to use the PC Word function that allows me
to put the name (or part of it) into the "open window. That reduces the
number of doc's to browse from 2000 or so down to a few at most.

How do I do this in Word for Mac?

Sherlock is really fast, much faster than the WordSearch.

Just click anywhere on the desktop and key Command-f (i.e., hold down the
Command key -- the one with the apple and "cloverleaf" on -- and hit "f").
It's very fast.
