How to send automatic vacation messages

When I go out of town, how do I set up my computer so that people
sending me messages will get an automatic reply saying I'm not
answering e-mails for a while?

You need to set up a rule in Entourage to do it. See here for an example
rule:
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/rules/example/rule003.html>

Be warned that this will only work if you leave your computer and internet
connection on and Entourage open while you're gone. You'll also need a
repeating schedule to send & receive mail. If you can't do that for
whatever reason, you should look into a server-side solution, possibly
available through webmail. Be sure to unsubscribe from mailing lists first!

Thank you for your advice. I'm not sure about leaving my computer on
all that time. I will look into the rule your suggested and appreciate
your answering so quickly!

Not only that, but for each spam your auto respond message responds to,
you're likely to get an 'unable to deliver' bounce message back,
assuming all that spam out there is coming from fake email addresses.

I wouldn't worry about that. I leave my computers on all the time. I have
a Bondi iMac that hasn't been turned off (except for restarts) since I
bought it 10 years ago. If you set your sleep settings properly it uses
next to no power and then is available when you need it.

Thanks. That's what I did.

Is your ISP RoadRunner? They are very likely to have a setting you can turn
on for this, call and ask them, or look on their site or check while
accessing your mail on the web instead of via Entourage. That would be the
server-side solution Mickey mentioned.

If you have an Exchange e-mail account, you can set the Out Of Office
reply on the server directly. Connect throug Webmail and go to the
options. It's all there.
