how to send email using gmail pop account?

I just set up my gmail pop account on my outlook, and while i can receive my
gmail, i cannot send it from my outlook. The error message i receive says
its a sending reported error and the server timed out. does anyone know how
to fix this?

You send using gmail's smtp server not pop. I use it all the time, just
follow the (v. explicit) instructions on gmails help.
