I have done what you are looking for on my site. However, you cannot do this
in Publisher. Here is the code you can use - you will have to insert an HTML
fragment and put this code in:

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!-- Original: Wayne Nolting ([email protected]) -->

<!-- This script and many more are available free online at -->
<!-- The JavaScript Source!! http://javascript.internet.com -->

<!-- Begin
function go(loc) {
window.location.href = loc;
}
// End -->
</script>

<form name="form">
<input type="radio" name="loc"
onClick="go('http://www.summitcts.com/index_files/check_cash_invoice.htm');">
Register for Class (Check, Cash, or Invoice)<br>
<input type="radio" name="loc"
onClick="go('http://www.summitcts.com/index_files/creditcard.htm');">
Register for Class (Credit Card or PayPal)<br>
<input type="radio" name="loc"
onClick="go('http://www.summitcts.com/index_files/login.htm');"> Register for
Class (Corporate Pricing - Requires Login)<br>
<input type="radio" name="loc"
onClick="go('http://www.summitcts.com/index_files/payments.htm');"> Pay an
Invoice<br>
</form>

<!-- Script Size: 1.14 KB -->

Of course you will need to change the information to your own. Good luck!

Thanks Sarah. You demonstrate that there are many ways to do things.

I also took a peek at your site http://www.summitcts.com/ and was impressed.
May I use it as an example once in a while and post the URL here in the
group? Which version of Publisher are you using? And, I noticed that you are
using Xara's navbar program...how did you discover that?

DavidF

Sarah0824

I'm impressed that you are impressed!! And yes, I guess I have stretched the
limits of Publisher with our site - but it works!

You are more than welcome to have people take a look at our site for
examples, etc. We are glad to show people what it can do - we figured if we
teach people how to use Publisher we should use it to create our site as
well.

I've found all the links to the sites where the code came from as well as
information about using Xara for the navigation bar from this forum. I
actually NEVER used HTML or java until we needed to incorporate the shopping
cart into our site and from there it just got easier and easier. I'm still
not that great at any of it, but I figure it out and what I don't figure out
on my own, I get answers from people like you!

Glad to help! Thanks for your kind remarks.

I forgot to tell you - I started out using Publisher 2003, and then switched
to Publisher 2007 when it came out. I haven't upgraded to Vista yet because
I know there are a lot of problems publishing with http and I haven't found a
good way to deal with this!

D

DavidF

If you reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
And read the section about Publish a Web site by using FTP, and expand the
directions, MSFT gives instructions on how to "Map a Network Drive". This is
because as of IE7 you can no longer FTP through IE. I believe that to use
HTTP uploading will also require you to "Map a Network Drive", but the
procedure may not be exactly the same. If you do go to that page, be sure to
submit that the information was NOT helpful at the bottom of the page and
ask MSFT to provide better, explicit instructions for HTTP uploading on
Vista...and it wouldn't hurt to ask them to include information about the
need for FPSE, which they also don't bother mentioning. Perhaps if enough
people scream a bit, they will get it done.

I don't have Vista installed, nor do I really want to install it. Nothing I
read about Vista indicates any advantage to me and the way I work, and lots
of disadvantages. I have purchased an extra copy of XP to install on my next
computer if by then I cannot get it factory installed. I also hope that
Vista ends up being like Windows ME...a short lived operating system that is
fairly quickly replaced.

The reason I asked about posting a link to your site as an example is that
too often I run across people who suggest that you should never use
Publisher for building a website. My feeling is that depending upon the
scope and goals for the site, if a person already owns Publisher and knows
how to use it, then it can be a good choice. This is especially true if all
they want is a relatively simple, small and static site. And if you learn to
use the insert html code fragment tool you can add some dynamic
functionality with javascript, etc. Your site illustrates this.

If you have been following this group then a recent poster submitted a link
to a site built with Dreamweaver, one of the most sophisticated...and
expensive web programs available, and in my opinion demonstrated that it
isn't necessarily the tool that one uses to build their site as much as the
skill in wielding that tool. You seem to handle the Publisher tool pretty
well...

I asked about the Xara menu because that is what I use...

I hope you keep jumping in and helping out in the group as your time
permits. The more perspectives shared the more we all learn...

Thanks for the help on that - nobody has ever given me the advice about
mapping a network drive, but I'll take a look at that and see what I can find
out. I'll shout at MS as well, hopefully it will do some good.

I am like you, though - won't be switching to Vista if I don't have to! It
looks cool and all, but beauty is only skin deep.

DavidF

As I said, I haven't worked through this with Vista, so I am not sure of the
approach. I generally work out solutions before I post them to make sure
they actually work. In this case, I haven't and can't until I make the time
to install Vista on my test partition...which is currently too small for
Vista.

Anyway, do offer the feedback to MSFT. It might not do any good, but who
knows. Thanks.

I use IE7 to FTP to my accountant almost every day...no Mapping of Drives
necessary...cant see why it wouldn't work with Publisher as long as you
don't need or use FPSE.

Humm. Are you running XP? I thought you used FileZilla? Do you transfer the
files from your hard drive, or directly from the application?

I have been paraphrasing what I have read on MSFT pages and other sources.
I think I even remember reading it on the Web Expression group, but I would
love to be wrong.

Yah XP Pro. I only started using FileZilla a week or so ago when I was
experimenting with trying to center a Publisher website (and keep it
centered).

But I usually use IE7 to upload my weekly backups of my accounting files to
my accountant's ftp site mainly because I have a shortcut key setup on this
keyboard so it's easy one button startup...then login manually.

You actually have to login twice due to security thing in IE7...once when
you do the normal ftp:// in the IE address window you get a ftp folder view
but you can't do anything - then you get a warning to open the site by using
the Page button on the toolbar this will give you: Open FTP Site in Windows
Explorer and you log in again...bada bing.

Then it's just a matter of dragging files into that IE window...nuttin to
it.

So, if I understand you correctly, you are uploading via Windows Explorer,
not IE7. That is what is described in the most recent directions for FTP
uploading a Publisher web by MSFT:
Reference: Prepare, publish, and maintain your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
Read the section about using FTP uploading, and the difference between XP
and Vista...which is the difference between IE6 and IE7 as you just
described it. It seems to me that this article and you are both saying that
you can't FTP upload directly through IE7 as you could via IE6....you have
to use Windows Explorer. Or is my understanding still incorrect?

Thanks.

Quick (I bbl)

Open IE7
type in the address box; ftp:// and then the ftp address you want to
publish to
a box will open for the un/pw enter them
then the ftp site will open in IE with a warning to select Page | View site
in FTP (something like that)
another un/pw box will drop down...same as the first one
then your ftp site will open in IE7
open and instance of Windows Explorer and browse to the files you want to
ftp and drag them into the IE7 ftp window to transfer files.
