How to set paper size default in Word 2004 to A4.

In OS 10.3.8 System Preferences>Printer and Fax there is only one A4
paper size - in Word 2004 there are two sizes: A4 and A4 small. The Word
2004 default seems to be set to A4 small.

How can I set the default in the German Word 2004 to A4?

Regardless of what I try, the new document is always A4 small. Also,
after making a few changes, the paper size also changes to A4 small.

You need to edit the Normal template. It should be in your Microsoft
User Data folder which is inside your Documents folder. This template
stores all your default settings for Word, which includes page size but
also default font, margins and many other settings.

Open it, change the page size, and then save the file back to the same
place, as a document template.

No, it's not the Normal template in this case. It has to do with the way
the printer driver is written and how Word interprets it. I have an article
ready to post to the word.MVS.org site (had a "little" computer problem that
held it up). If either of you would like an advance copy of it, send me an
email with ChangePrintDefault in the subject line and I'll send it to you as
an attachment.

Hans, the article is written for English versions of Word but you should
have no trouble adapting the workaround for the German version.
