How to set un an Exchange Account in Outlook

Using Outlook 2002 SP3 I have been trying to set up an MS Exchange E-Mail
Account to be able to access all my mail in one place, However I can not get
Outlook to connect to the desired Exchange server. For some reason I can not
get certain portions of the program to appear on screen for me to enter the
proper information.

In the Mail setup dialog box under Control Panel I click Show Profiles. Then
select the profile there, click Properties, click E-mail Accounts, select
View or change existing e-mall accounts, and then click Next.

According to the instructions I then should continue to Configure the
computer for RPC over HTTP .

In the E-mail accounts dialog box, click Microsoft Exchange Server, and then
click Change.

In the Microsoft Exchange server box, type the local name of the Exchange
server:

xxxxxserver.xxxxxxxx.xxxxx

In the User Name box, type the user name that you use to log on to the
Remote Web Workplace. Do not click Check Name.

In here I am supposed to go directly to the Exchange server settings page,
by clicking on More settings. However the connection automatically goes to
try an connect to the server and tells me that could not make the connection.
Then brings a page that asks to Check the name. I just close it and go to the
More settings page.

On the Connection tab, I check the Connect using the Internet…. ,
according to Outlook manual instructions once this is selected I should be
able to tell I t to use HTTP, and then click Exchange Proxy Settings. And the
Exchange Proxy Settings dialog box appears., However it never gives me this
choice nothing comes up to allow me to set up the next step to enter the URL
so as to connect to the proxy server.

URL:

xxxx.xxxxxxxx.com

Neither I can find a place where it allows me to Select Connect using SSL
only, and then select Mutually authenticate the session when connecting with
SSL.

Also I can get no place for me to enter the Principal name for proxy server
box, type the following text:

msstd: xxxx.xxxxxxxxx.com

Or, to select the type of Authentication.

I also tried in Outlook 2002 SP3 to set up just as an HTTP account with no
success at all.

However if I set a hotmail account through HTTP I get no problem to access
email.

If I just go and open the Internet browser and enter the URL in the address
line I get an immediate response and I am there at the login page just ready
to enter the user name and password.
Any help would be greatly appreciated by an old but true sad newbie.
Thanx.

Outlook 2002 (part of Office XP) does not support RPC over HTTP connections.
RPC over HTTP was first introduced in Outlook 2003 (part of Office 2003).

What version of Exchange? HTTP only works for Exchange 2000/2003. Also, you
can only access mail - not the special folders (calendar, contacts etc).

For specifics, see

to add to Neo's answer, not only do you need Outlook 2003, you also need
Exchange 2003 running on a Windows 2003 network that is specifically
configured for RPC/HTTP.
