How to set up a gradient fill of light dark light vertical bars

S

Steve

The new powerpoint has turned me into a sluggish performer - I was a wiz at
the old ppt, now all these pre-fab'd buttons and pulldown menus add so much
time to my work. All I wanted to do was to make a light to dark to light
vertical gradient and I have spent over 2 hours working on that and I still
don't have what I want.

Your previous version in PPT allowed me to do that in about 15 seconds.
Thanks for the useless changes.

I'm sorry you don't like it... maybe when you get used to how much more
control you have over your gradients, you'll love it as much as I do... but
to answer your question:
Click the dialog box launcher for the background group on the Design tab.
Under gradient stops, stop one should be selected, select your dark color
and set the stop position to 100%.
click the list button for the stop and select stop 2, select your light
color and set the stop position to 67%.
click the list button for the stop and select stop 3 and select your dark
color and set the stop position to 0%.
Set the angle (0 for vertical) as desired...
(If there are other stops on your list, select them and then click remove.)
Hope this helps...

Thanks...it will take awhile to convince me the new one is better...too many
issues to list

I know - I had a few issues of my own at first... my biggest problem was the
layouts... I would always use Title, Text, and Content layouts when I set up
and then switch my pictures around by changing the layout to Title, Content,
and Text on some of the slides. Totally had me... well you know... when I
saw the lack of layouts in 07. Then! I found out I could make my own
layouts! Fixed that to even better than 03's choices. And when it comes to
gradients... yes, it's true it's a little more work to get the same gradients
we had before with just a click... but now you could go dark, light, dark,
light, dark if you wanted... or even one dark color, light, and then a
different dark color! (I used to have to fake that with a large rectangle
over my original gradient...) Anyhow, I know it's terribly frustrating when
you want something done in a hurry and it's not working the way you think it
ought... but give it a little time and don't frustrate yourself too much - we
all went thru the same thing - post back if you find yourself going there,
maybe somebody will know a fix.
Good luck!

I just noticed - you said light, dark, light and I gave you dark, light,
dark...
I'm sorry! I hope it didn't make it worse. Proof I should probably not try
to help at 1 in the am. :-(
