How to Setup Office XP Sp1 and Sp2 Admin Updates

D

David Allen

I have the image on a shared directory on a server
containing the files for a Office Xp Install. I have
downloaded the Office XP Sp1a and Sp2a admin updates.
However, I am having trouble updating my install to
include the Service packs. I hope to do this because I am
going to deploy Xp to 100+ desktops and I don't want to
run the Service Packs manually. I have microsofts web
page with the following instructions to type:

[start] msiexec /p [path\name of update MSP file]
/a [path\name of MSI file]
SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE /qb /L* [path\name of log file]

The server is a Win2k as are the desktops. Do I need the
[] when typing the command. I have tried it both ways and
had no luck. If anyone has a easier way, Please advise.
Of if someone can provide a sample in which I can just
edit for example the path, server share location etc. that
might help. Thanks in advance.

Hi David,

You can apply the Office XP Admin updates to
an Office XP Admin Setup point, which is different
than copying a CD image to the hard drive.

If you have an Admin point then when you apply
the commands substitute the path and file names
for your network on your computer
for the [placeholders] in the sample command.
[Start] is the Start button on your PC.
