how to share mdb on LAN

Hi,

I have created a MDB which has 4 tables, 2 forms and 1 Module. I used all
the Access default settings to create it. The startup form is a Login form
which is used to let the user login. After this the login details are written
in another table.

Now I have to place this MDB in a shared folder at my Server, so It could be
used through LAN. The folder is given Full control to Everyone permission.
But local users on LAN are unable to use it as when opened it shows Database
is ReadOnly. While on the machine I created the MDB, the MDB is fully
functional, by openning it from the server.

What should I do to make it sharable ? I am using Windows XP Pro on all the
machines. The MS ACCESS is ver 2003.

Perhaps you have to look at share or folder permissions, all users should
have full access there

Hi Alex,

But the shared folderand the MDB file are given Full control permission for
everyone.

Now one more complaxity how If I want to protect this MDB file from
deletion, while Full control is there for everyone ?

Thanks for reply!!

Hi,
for shared folder can work 2 kinds of permissions - permisions for folder
and permissions for share. so check both. and of course mdb file permissions
also.
Full control is required, else it will not work.
Furthermore - better idea is to split mdb into 2 mdbs - one with tables
(BE), other with rest (FE), and link tables from BE to FE.

Hi Alex,

The sharing problem is now fixed and now no one can delete the MDB from the
server but can use it and data could be modified in it. Thanks for your help.

But I can't understand BE/ FE split idea. Could you please supply me some
links to read on these.

Thanks again.
