How to show Holidays on a Gnatt chart??

R

Robert

Hello

I'm using P2003 on Windows XP Pro.

I've looked everywhere and used the help files but can't
seem to be able to show a two week period (Xmas shut down)
at Christmas using vertical coloured bars.

Also, i don't seem to be able to show 'Today's date' you
know the vertical straight line that indicates todays date.

These must seem easy to the expert.

Thanks for reading.

Project won't do this easily. You can use the drawing tools to draw that
shaded period, but other than that no.
Also, i don't seem to be able to show 'Today's date' you
know the vertical straight line that indicates todays date.

Right click on the gantt chart.
Select "Gridlines"
Scroll down in the box on the left until you see "current date"
select it and format it the way you like.
These must seem easy to the expert.

One is easy, one is impossible. Typical of project.

Hello Rob,
Have you changed your project calendar to refect the two-
week Xmas shut down as non-working time? If the shut
down in non-working time and you have modified the
standard calendar, the Gantt chart should be showing that
non-working time with the standard gray shade. If you
have created a custom calendar and set the shut-down as
non-working, go to Format--> Timescale. Click on the
NonWorking time tab and make sure the custom calendar is
set as the calendar for the Gantt chart.

Hope this helps.

I have set the standard calendar and checked that is is
set in Format->Timescales.
One further option in there - do i set the Draw: options
to: Behind Task Bar or In front of taskbar?

(Note: i'm only using one tier - it's a bit odd that the
one tier is the middle tier??)

In Tools-->Change Working Time I've set the 2-week shut
down period in the standard calendar as non-working time.

But when i then view the project - nothing!
No greyed out 2-weeks in the Gantt chart.

Any ideas?

Hi Rob,

This is a puzzler. I am also running Project 2003
Professional on Windows XP Pro.

I went in, modified the standard calendar with a two-week
non-working time. No further steps needed. The Gantt
chart immediately displayed the nonworking time as grey
shade.

You mention that you are only working with one tier (the
middle). Is your middle tier formatted to show weeks?
If your middle tier is showing months the gray shade will
not appear. Try zooming in (use the zoom in button on the
standard tool-bar) Are your weekends (or other nonworking
time) displaying with the grey shade?

As far as drawing in-front or behind the bars - up to you
and shouldn't make a difference. Drawing behind the bars
simply means that the task bars are not interrupted
(appear to start and stop) over non-working time.

The only other *possible* change I can think of is the
service pack for Project 2003. Have you installed it?

Let me know if these ideas help - if not, we'll try again.

I feel such a fool.
After setting the shut-down period (Xmas) as non-working
time. That was it - it worked.
The trouble was my programme is spread over 2 years and i
had the programme shown in Months!! That was the
problem. After simply zooming in - there is my greyed out
shut down period.

Thank you very much
