How to show vertical bar as I type message?

I want the black, vertical bar to show as I type an email message. It showed
in Outlook Express. When I complete a paragraph and enter twice I want to
see that thin black vertical line that shows me where I am on the page.

Thank You.

Are you asking about the cursor insert marker? That is, the thin
vertical bar (and not the "|" character itself) that shows after where
the next character will get inserted? If so, there is no option in
Outlook to turn it off. Something else is interfering with the
display of the insert marker.

Maybe you configured your mouse software to hide it while typing.
That won't hide insert marker (the straight vertical bar that looks
like a long thin "|") but it will hide the text select icon (looks
like a vertical bar with serifs on the top and bottom, like an
elongated and thin "I").

Does the insert marker appear when you use some other application,
like Word or Notepad, while typing into it? Maybe you are using Word
as the new-mail editor rather than the embedded editor in Outlook (you
did not mention WHICH version of Outlook that you use) and possibly a
Word option controls that display of the insert marker (but then you
would see the same effect when creating a new doc using Word and not
for when using the template in Word to compose e-mails).

Thanks. You are 100% on target. Word was the checked as the email editor. I
unchecked it and now the "curser insert marker" is back and guidiing me. I
didn't know the name of the vertical bar so thank you for that too.

Here's the process I took: Tools, Options, Mail Format. I deleted the
'checks' in the 2 boxes that said, "Microsoft Office Word Edit".

I hope this is clear. You helped me figure it out.
