how to sort tables, without the quotation marks coming first, but.

How can I sort tables, in which the sentence begin with a quotation mark. I
want the sorting to ignore the quotation and to sort by the word in quotation.

I'm afraid the only way to do this is to either remove the quotation marks
temporarily (or add quotation marks temporarily to items that don't have
them, if they are fewer) or reposition the missorted items by hand.

Hi Yves,

You might hide the quotation marks temporarily with Find/Replace (Replace
quotes " with ^& and Format>Font>Hidden).

Word only sorts what it "sees".

Clever idea, Klaus! What you don't say is how to accomplish "temporarily."
If no other direct formatting is applied, selecting all the text and
pressing Ctrl+Spacebar will remove the Hidden property. If it is necessary
to preserve other formatting by rerunning the find and replace after
checking Format | Font | Hidden again to make it change to Format: Not
Hidden.
