How to specifiy format of "Full Name" field for contacts in Outloo

Zodman

I'm using Outlook 2007 SP1 (12.0.6136.5000) . When I add a new contact, the
"Full Name" field displays as last name first name. Even when I use the data
entry dialog to ensure the correct name parts are specified, the "Full Name"
field is always displayed last first. Playing with the "Show names by"
address book account settings doesn't have any effect.

Looking at contacts I've previously set up (in older versions of Office, and
from my mobile), they are displaying correctly in the "Full Name" field
(First Last). It's only new contacts that have this issue.

I've even tried setting up new contacts correctly on my WM6 phone, then
syncing. After the sync, the desktop client has formatted the "Full Name"
field incorrectly, and synced the change back to the phone.

Searching the web I've found many people with this problem, but no solutions.

Surely there is a way to format this field how I want?

Carl.

Outlook just does what you tell it to. What format did you specify for the
Full Name field in Tools > Options > Contact options...?

Ah! Thank you.

You know, no matter how many times I went through the options screens, I
couldn't find this setting. After changing this to the correct format and
restarting Outlook, I had to go in to each contact that still had the
incorrect order, click the "Full Name..." button, then OK to get the correct
order to appear.

Still, I'm happy.

So are there any plans for Outlook to use the Ribbon and the new options
screens like Excel, Word, and PowerPoint?

The settings only apply to new Contacts, not existing ones.
Outlook already uses the Ribbon in message windows and new Contact windows.

I meant for the main window. I figure that when this is done they'll apply
the same sort of design decisions to the options screen as they have in the
other ribbonised Office products.

Rumor has it that it may appear in the next version of Outlook.
