How to speed up Outlook 2003 ??

Hoping for suggestions for speeding up Outlook 2003 SP1. When I open, delete
or send an email, it takes 10 seconds to appear. When I drag and drop an
email into a folder, it can take 30 seconds to complete. Changing between
email and the calendar can take 30+ seconds. Too slow for a vital
application!

It runs on a laptop with Windows XP SP2 which runs at 597 Mhz and has 320MB
RAM. Those specs are slow, but there is still over 160 MB RAM available
after Outlook loads. So it should run okay.

Outlook does have 4 PST files open at once. Each one is below 2 GB. The
main PST folder with contacts, inbox, calendar etc. is below 20 MB.
Journaling is turned off. Ran the inbox repair tool; it found errors and
fixed, but there is no noticeable improvement in speed.

Any suggestions please on how to speed it up?

Try moving and saving you messages stored in your folders somewhere outside
of OL. You can also try compacting the folders BUT make sure that you do
this OFFLINE. Basic start

In this order:
less attached PST files, disable com add-ins (if any), compact the PSTs,
disable MSN Messenger integration.
