How to start Excel with no open workbooks

Does anyone know how to do this? I knew once, but have forgotten how
it is done. I just want to load the shell, then open files I have
saved on my hard drive.

TIA

Thank you, Tom, but where do you enter this string? In the RUN dialog
and the properties dialog if I enter "space/e" after excel.exe I get
"a file name can not contain any of the following characters: /!*~)
yada yada yada. (what else have I forgotten?)

Cary,

all you need type at the Start-->Run prompt is exactly as follows:

excel.exe /e

without any quotes, don't spell out "space" etc. If you'd like, copy and
paste the above into your Run prompt.

HTH,
Katherine
