How to stop a Onenote window popping to front on getting focus?

T

Tim

A onenote window behind another, but peeking out the side, currently pops to
the front if it gets focus (which I have set to mouseover). It is the only
one of my programs that does this and I cannot find out to stop it. Does
anyone know?

Also, a general windows question: does anyone know how to minimize a window
with a single keyclick. This is a pot of gold I've been searching for for
some time.

I'm sorry, no idea.
I do not even understand what's happening in your side.

Yes, easy enough: Just clock on the "minimize icon" at right of each
windows' header.
Or: Am I missing something?

Hi Rainald,
I'm sorry, no idea.
I do not even understand what's happening in your side.

OK, I have Onenote open to full screen, then I put a smaller browser window
on top because there is something there on which I want to take notes. As
soon as I move the pointer to the Onenote window, it comes fully visible,
pushing the browser to the back where I can no longer see it. Now I could
make a small Onenote window and put that on top of the full-screen browser
window, but it's annoying to have to do that if I happen to be working the
other way around.

It's just an irritation, but I can't get rid of it and like all unscratched
itches it gets more annoying as time goes on.

Yes, but I should have said "keystroke" and not "keyclick". Sometimes I
like to work from the keyboard and I want a universal shortcut that will make
one and only one window minimize from the keyboard without having to use the
mouse. It's easy to do in Linux...

Thanks,

Tim

You can minimise all windows with Windows+M or Windows+D.
Our you can use Alt+Tab to toggle between windows.

Tom,
I've read this thread over and over again (at least a dozen times) and
still can not really see what's happening why and what you are after
:-( :-(
OK, I have Onenote open to full screen, then I put a smaller browser

*Why* do you work with full-screen mode?
I hardly ever do that, not even in my 12.1" screen of my TabletPC. Of
necessary, I drag the ON-window wider and higher but hardly ever click
on the full-screen button.

Furthermore: How have you set the window to pop up "OnMouseOver"?
Did you select use the "X-mouse" feature in the mouse settings?
And *why* have you set that feature?

With both set this way it does not take wonder at all that you are
continuously stumbling over your own foot!! said:

That's the logical result of your settings.

The browser full-screen too?
Myomy :-( And then you complain about not being able to reach your ON
window ...
I for one have the browser's window always with a width that I can see
at least a little part of the ON window. And so it's just a clock to put
it in front.

Working this way does mean not to have a really workable environment!
Your workaround just illustrates a someway crazy situation.

Just work the normal way.

Hi Rainald,

Thanks for your help, I do appreciate your patience, but I'm afraid you're
still not getting it. I am not aware that I am doing anything in an abnormal
way. Basically, if my Onenote window has focus, it insists on being the
topmost window. It is the only program that I have, among many, which does
this. I can find no way to make it stop.

For example, right now I have a Firefox window open in which I am typing
this message. I have now opened a new mail message in Outlook. I put the
Outlook window behind this one, move the mouse onto it, and start typing.
The Outlook window stays behind the Firefox window. Now, I open a Onenote
window, put it behind the firefox window. As soon as I move the pointer into
the onenote window, it pops to the front, obscuring the Firefox window. The
Outlook window did not do that, I can't figure out how to make Onenote stop
it.

Yes, I have X-mouse set. For me, this is the "normal" way of working. I
like focus to follow the pointer, I like my windows to stay where they are
until I click on them. This works everywhere except Onenote.

Cheers,

Tim

I like the X-mouse functionality alot, seems natural as opposed to having to click for getting focus.

It's really annoying when you open a new window, e.g. notepad, and you just can't reach it because onenote is in the background. Currently I have to click onenote in the taskbar so it will minimize.

If you've found a solution, please let me know through here.
