How to stop montly removal of recently used files in Word, etc?

Every montht eh list of recently used files in Word and Excel dissapears. How
can this be changed? is tis arbbitraty adn idiotic. Thanks!

That is typically the result of the user running some "clean-up" or
"Privacy" software. Office is the victim, not the cause.
