How to stop opening Blank Wookbooks?

Two problems: It used to be that Excel would automatically close a blank workbook when opening a document and, it used to be that Excel would not open a blank workbook when it was unhidden. Excel 08 will not close a blank workbook when opening a document and opens a blank workbook each time I unhide it (ie clicking on the Excel Icon in the dock). How do I stop this??

Actually, the "problems" you describe are partly because Office 2008 has
been designed to be more compliant with Apple OS X guidelines:)

It still does on my installation - as long as the blank workbook actually
*has not* been modified in any way.

According to Hoyle, clicking the Dock icon isn't the equivalent of
"unhiding" an application, it's the equivalent of *re-launching* it which is
what generates the new file. Try using Command+Tab instead.
