how to stop the drawing canvas when I only want a text box

The drawing canvas appears in a document when I click on the text box icon.
How can I stop it?

Word 2003: On the Tools menu, click Options. Click the General tab. Clear
the "Automatically create drawing canvas when inserting AutoShapes" check
box.

Word 2007: Click the Office button, and then click Word Options. In the
Advanced category, clear the "Automatically create drawing canvas..."
option.
