How to stop this?

I received a mail from a friend yesterday and it required receipt.

My problem is two folds.
First, my Yahoo smtp is not working recently for unknown reasons. Therefore
and attempt to send mail through Yahoo from my Outlook XP will be a failure.
I entered yes to respond the mail which requested for mail receipt through
Yahoo (it is the pop account that I received that mail from and by default
it sent mail through Yahoo).
Now it is bothering me so much, the smtp failure keeps popping up (keeps
trying to send that receipt I guess) even after I "deleted" that mail from
the Outlook.

How can I reallt STOP it?
Thank you so much !!

When you "deleted" it, you probably really only moved it into your
Deleted Items folder rather than actually permanently delete it
(Shift-Del). See if deleting it from your Deleted Items folder gets rid
of it trying to resend the receipt.
