There is no direct way to save a Report in Microsoft Project Professional
2003 to an editable form, such as an Excel document. There is a trick you
can use to simulate saving a Report in this manner, however. The trick is
to save the project as a Web page using these steps:
1. Open the project in question
2. Click File - Save as Web Page
3. Select the folder for the file and click the Save button (leave the file
type as HTML)
4. Click the Next button on the Welcome page of the Export wizard
5. Select the New Map option and click the Next button
6. Select whether you want tasks, resources, or assignments and other HTML
options as you desire, then click Next
7. Select the fields you want to export (click the Base on Table button to
do this quickly) and then click the Next button
8. Repeat step 7 for each type of data you selected in step 6 and click
Next
9. Click the Save Map button
10. Give the new map a name and click the Save button
11. Click the Finish button
Now that you have saved the project as an HTML file, launch Excel and you
can open the file as an Excel spreadsheet, even though it is saved as an
HTML file. After you open it as an HTML file, you can save it as an Excel
workbook file using File - Save As. The above process will not simulate
saving every type of Report that exists in Microsoft Project, especially for
Reports that access timescaled data, such as the Who Does What When report.
However, it will work nicely to simulate saving task and resource Reports.
Hope this helps.
