how to switch off new mail notification for junk mail?

P

Pauli

When junk email arrives in my inbox, it will automatically move to my junk
mail folder. I like this.

But what I do not like is that the "new mail notification" symbol (an
envelope) in the notification area at the bottom right of my screen remains
there. The only way to get rid of that symbol is to go to my junk mail folder
and open the junk mail. This is ridiculous.

How to solve this problem?

What version of Outlook? Current versions do no exhibit that beharior. For
those older versions that do, simply open ANY message, including one you
have read already. The new message icon will go away.

Since Outlook 2003 SP1 (I believe), the Junk Mail filter runs before the
process that notes new messages by displaying the New Message icon. This is
so that the reception of junk mail doesn't make people think they have new
mail to read. At least, that's how it works in my experience.
