How to sync all OneNote notebooks between desktop and laptop

N

NTafoya

I want to use all of my notebooks between my desktop and laptop, fully
sychronized. I do not use a server. I do use 'cloud' technology with the
"magic briefcase" using sugar sync. Can I simply map my one note to the
'magic briefcase' on both computers? If yes, how do I do that without losing
the data that I already have on One Note? Thank you.. Nancy

AFAICS all of the above will not be a proper solution.

Just use the great feature of using the notebooks "shared" and let
them be synched automatically.

Way to go:
1.) Decide which computer shall be the "main" one where the notebook
files are stored. Normally this would be the desktop computer.
Set the rights for the ON notebooks directory to allow "sharing".

2.) Close all notebooks currently open in ON on the laptop.
Connect the two computers via cable or WLAN.
Then open the notebooks one by one from the desktop computer.

ON always works with it's cache.
Whenever and as long as the computers are connected, ON will synch the
data automatically.
When they are disconnected all changes are stored in the cache.
One can work on both computers.
And as soon as the computers are connected, data will be synched on
both computers.

Sounds like magic?
Well, yes, ON is just fantastic in so far.

HTH
If any more questions, pls ask.

Keep your ON files on a usb flash disk.
I am doing so.
It has some problems and generally works fine.

Interesting:
Although being the No. 1 member of this community having posted on
problems with synching, you are posting advice now?

Correct!

Which problems do remain on your side?
We did quite some work on your issues.
Feedback from your side is lacking, however, AFAICS.

Why having some problems should prevent me recommending it?
Yes as far as I am concerned there is a sync issue, but what is the
alternative?
Sync is easiest if you keep files on a usb flash disk.
I also need to mention that sync over a network is not for me because it
needs always an internet connection.

Although not so practical I suggest the following for those who have sync
issues and who wish to keep ON files on a usb flash drive:
Do not do syn at all. Work on your usb drive and when you switch to another
computer do not do sync. First open ON at the computer you switched, and
close the notebooks. Plug in the usb drive and open the notebooks. Hence you
do not need any sync.

This depends on the situation.
If one connect the computers directly (or via a LAN or WLAN) no
USB-stick is needed. Synching works automatically in the home-network.

This IMO is not a practical way of working.
And I would kindly ask you to not recommend this to other users.

As long as the sync does not work properly, I have to recommend it.
Because sync has a problem (as far as I experience) people may loose
important information and data.
I love ON, but the facts are there.
