I have a desktop running XP Home with Office 2003 Prof
a HP Laptop with XP Home and Outlook 2003 Prof
and a Smansung i730 PDA phone with Windows WM2003 Pocket PC Phone edition
with Verizon dataplan/Wirelessync.
The laptop is used in a remote office which has a highspeed internet
connection.(Currently no VPN to the home office desktop)
The PDA is used while traveling.
I had been using PDA with Activesync to keep all the contacts, calendar and
tasks sync'd between the two computers, which worked very nicely.
Unfortunately, MS Activesync does not support Inbox/Email sync between
multiple pc.s That is the PDA will only sync outlook inbox to one pc. And
near as I can tell if you have two sync profiles set up it won't sync emails
with either one!
To further complicate matters, I know have a dataplan and can get emails
wirelessly on my pda. Curretnly via Pop3, although IMAP is also supported.
Verizon has a wirless sync option which allows you to sync outlook to their
server, or you can load a desktop server to sync the PDA phone to your
desktop, but that requires you to leave outlook open and your destop always
logged in. (this desktop has multi users) However, I would like to avoid
this wireless sync solution having had bad previous bacd experiences with
failed sync's when in marginal wireless data coverage areas .
The PDA always travels between the laptop and the desktop.
Anyone have any ideas on how to keep my inbox up to date on all three?
Right now, I have to delete emails on two devices after reading them. Plus
keeping Sent copies get's very tricky, as I can't really copy myself on any
outbound, because it will eventually be downloaded by the PDA device.
i realize I can delete email copies on the ISP's server, or save them when I
get my mail, but that alone doesn't solve the problem.
The only other idea I come up with which seems a bit grueling is to use the
PDA and a 1 gig SD card as way to pass a .pst file back and forth. But I
think that may cause problems, as the desktop Outlook as multiple user
profiles and only one XP user profile.
Adding a exchange server of my own is not a practical solution for my SOHO
