How to tell Outlook version?

J

jim

We use SMS to collect software data. When we lookup Outlook instances, it
comes back with versions like "11.8010.6568", but not Outlook 2000 or 2003.
It also looks like that number can change depending on which service pack is
installed and/or any Office hotfixes.

So my question is, is there some part of "11.8010.6568" that refers to the
version that doesn't change no matter how many patches are installed? Like
if i knew that 11.xxxx.xxxx was always Outlook 2003 and 10.xxxx.xxxx was
always Outlook 2000, that would be great.

Does anyone know of a version reference so i can decipher these numbers into
plain English? As in 11.8010.6568 = Outlook 2003 with service pack 1 with
x, y, and z hotfixes.

Thanks.

You've got it in one! Except 10.xxx is Outlook 2002 AFAIK, not Outlook 2000

Hello Jim,

From the post log, I understand that you would like to know the version
number of Office products.

Based on my knowledge, Microsoft Office products use the following syntax
for the version number:

aa.bbbb.cccc

This number represents the following three items:

- aa: The version of Office.

Note:
Office 2003 = 11.xxxxx.xxxxx
Office XP = 10.xxxx.xxxx
Office 2000 = 9.xxxx.xxxxx

- bbbb: The version of the program executable file. For example, the
Outlook.exe file.
- cccc: The version of the Mso.dll file.

Regarding the version number 11.8010.6568, please see the following
information:

o 11: Office 2003.
o8010: The version of the Outlook.exe file.
o6568: The version of the Mso.dll file.

For more information about checking the version of Office 2003 products:

The number 8010 indicate that you have the KB913807 apply on the client.
For more information, please see the article below:

Description of the update for Outlook 2003: March 14, 2006

Hope this helps.

If anything is unclear or you need further assistance, please feel free to
let me know. We are glad to be of assistance.
