How to tell which version of Word created a document

Given that recent versions of Word all use more or less the same file
format, is there any way to tell which version of Word (97, 2000, XP or
2003) created and/or last saved a document?

I'm using Word 2000 if that makes any difference.

Even if you could determine which version of Word was last used to save a
doc, that info won't help, as various versions may have been used to
modify/save the doc over its life.
