how to text-wrap drawing objects in line with text

For several projects I need to embed graphics (drawing objects, usually) into
the text. The images can't be substituted with Wingdings or anything like
that.

I can make the drawing objects easily enough, but the trouble comes when
formatting them. When doing the layout settings, Office 2000 won't let me
choose "In line with text" as a text-wrap option.

How can you set a drawing object into the running text?

Well, the problem is exactly what you've found it to be - Drawing Objects
(shapes) can't be set to In Line. The only workaround I know of is to cut
the shape then use Edit>Paste Special - Picture [of some sort], which can
then have the In Line setting applied to it. For best results:

Drawings made from multiple shapes should be Grouped first,
Can't remember what Paste Special offers in Word 2000, but PNG works best,
followed by Enhanced Metafile (if either of those options are available).

You may also find that the rasterization degrades the resolution (sharpness)
of the drawing object. GIFs, Windows Metafiles & JPEGs [in particular] give
very poor results.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the tip; it does the job nicely.

By the way, for Word 2000, all the Paste Special options you mentioned hold
good: PNG, Metafile, GIF, JPG.

cheers,
jacob
