how to transfert data from baseline to work?

I would like to freeze the "work" values for tasks. I can save values in the
baseline.
As the "actual work" is input, "work" data moves that I don't want... how
can I do to inject data from the baseline to the work (even in VBA).

The reason I would like to do that is the ressource graph (or the histogram
graph) is only based on the "work" field. This view is very usefull to check
the overload of a resource. My users want to stay at the initial schedule
input in the "work" field.

If you have any other solution than transfering data from baseline to work
to have the histogram chart base on data.

Thanks for your help

Hi,

If your users want to ignore reality (actual work) then don't input it into
Project.
It could be changed by modifying Work anyway.
For a completed task, whatever you do, Work and Actual Work will be
identical.
You could enter real actual work (insofar you are intersted, I don't have
the feeling you are) in a custom Duration field.

Hope this helps,

Thanks very much for your answer Jan.

You changed my point of view and I tried to find a solution with my users
and the way they want to use MSP.
Anyway, in my previous post I tried to expose a solution instead of telling
about problem and constraints which is not the best way to solve.

Users schedule tasks at the beginning of the project by inputing the work.
Actual work is automaticaly updated by PWA (which is fed by workers and
their timesheet). At this point, everything is normal.

MSP updates the work by re-scheduling, considering the actual work. That's
the users don't want. They would like to freeze the work or updating it
manually.

One solution could be using the baseline. But the baseline can't be linked
to the histogram chart to have the resource graph which is very helpful.

The solution you propose, to use a custom duration field could be a good
way. Do you know if PWA can input in a seach field instead of the actual work?

Thanks a lot for all your contributions that I have readen before my first
posting here.

Hi,

I think the Resource Graph thing is just a pretext.
Project managers hate reality, especially when it is visible to management
through PWA.

As for your "solution" my advice is to do that in a copy of the file, just
to show resource graph.
That way the real plan is based on reality (actual work) and not on wishful
thinking.
In this duplicate file, copy baselinework into work - I don't think you need
VBA.
Make the resource graph and forget about this lie as soon as possible.

Note that you are not the first to ask for this; as I said, the "don't
confuse me with facts" religion is widespread but you can't call that
project management.

Greetings,
