How to turn cursor on or off?

I use command buttons to navigate tables. However, when the form first opens
the first record is highlighted, but when navigating thru the table using the
next rec button or previous rec button the highlighting is not there and
leaves the user to wonder what record they are on. Can I contro either the
highlighted field/row or the cursor?
