How to turn off constraint updates

S

Sandy M.

I would like to turn off the constraint setting. I am entering schedule
dates from many outside sources and sometimes I have to enter the start and
end dates provided to me. When I enter the finish date it sets a Finish No
Later Than constraint. When I have to change dates, it often will not accept
the dates I type in due to the constraint type and date. Is there anyway to
just turn this feature off while I am entering the schedule data?

Hi,

I'm a bit puzzled here.
First, when you enter a finish date, project sets a Finish no earlier then
constraint, not a finish no later than constraint as you suggest.
Second, this will not stop you from entering dates on that task.
Thirdly, if you don't like coinstraints, don't enter dates. How on earth
will project know how to honor your dates entered if it isn't by a
constraint (in the absence of links)?
Project isn't meant to have dates entered, one should really avoid that.
If utterly necessary, enter the constraint yourself instead of letting
Project guess what you mean.
Or do yop really have Finish No Earlier Than constraints?
In all my years in project management nobody ever asked me to finish no
earlier than.
Hope this helps,

If you enter a start date, Project sets a SNET (Start No Earlier Than)
constraint. If you enter a finish date, it sets a FNET. If you try to
enter BOTH start and finish dates, the constraint you end up with is the one
for the last item entered (a task can only have one costraint). Why are
they telling you these dates in the first place? Are you letting them tell
you when they want to do the work in YOUR project? By and large you should
be telling them when you need it done, not the other way around. Or are
they giving you updates on actual performance, reporting progress to you?
