How To Turn Off Paragraph Numbering

C

Chaim Caron

Is there any way to specify a global setting to turn off paragraph
numbering? Or is there a way to turn off paragraph numbering for a specific
style?

I think there must be a global setting, because when I had to wipe out my OS
and reinstall, including reinstalling Word, the behavior changed and
paragraphs of all styles started being numbered.

Is this the correct newsgroup to ask this question? If not, could you tell
me which is the correct newsgroup?

Thanks

The problem could be that the Normal style is set to "Automatically
update". Since Normal by default is the parent of a lot of other
styles in Word, all of those styles would be affected by modifications
to the Normal style.

Try the following: With the cursor in a Normal style paragraph,
display the Modify Style dialog box (for instructions, see
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/styles/ModifyAStyle.html). Clear the
"Automatically update" option. Select "Add to template". Then click
Format>Numbering. Click the None option, and click OK to confirm the
settings.
