How to type a subscript above a superscript like chemical element

How do I input the elements of the periodic table in MS Word? Is it possible
to place a superscript directly above a subscript?

I have this problem in Word 2003 and 2007.

Any suggestions?

In both versions, the same Equation Editor is available (if it has been
installed; if not, select Office in the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs,
click Change, select "Add or remove features", and select Equation Editor under
Office Tools). In Word 2003, click Insert > Object and select "Microsoft
Equation 3.0" in the dialog; in Word 2007, click the Insert tab on the ribbon,
click the unlabeled Insert Object button in the Text group, and select
"Microsoft Equation 3.0" in the dialog.

On the toolbar, click the third button in the second row, "Subscript and
superscript templates". In the dropdown, choose one of the layouts that combine
a subscript and a superscript. Enter the numbers in the boxes. Then move the
cursor to the proper location and type the element symbol, and apply Text style
to it so it isn't italicized.

In Word 2007 there is a new equation editor that you get when you click Insert >
Equation or press Alt+=. However, I wasn't able to find a way to get the same
results with that. I could get the numbers one above the other by using a
two-cell matrix, but I couldn't format those numbers in a smaller font size than
the element symbol; selecting one part of the equation and changing the font
size resulted in the entire equation being resized. Maybe someone else knows a
good trick for this...
