how to type a subscript

I want to be able to type a subscipt like for water - H2O with the 2 being
small
or how do I type cubic mm (mm to the 3rd power). Is there a key or set of
keys I can type to make this happen?

In OneNote 2007 and 2003:
1. In the menu select Format | Font
2. At the bottom of the pane you will see a section labeled Apply text
effects.

That should be what your looking for.

You can use Ctrl+= for subscripts, or Ctrl+Shift+= for superscripts. You
can also add the buttons to the formatting toolbar: click the down arrow
at the right end of the toolbar, select add/remove buttons, go into the
Formatting submenu, and toggle the subscript/superscript buttons.
