How to type above a chart/table?

John

Greetings. I copied/pasted a table from a website to a Word 2003 document.
However, when I clcik above it, the cursor doesn't appear. I always have
this problem. Somebody once advised me to show these proofreader's
characters that look like little musical notes however, I have absolutely no
idea how that should help. Also, in addition to answering my question, could
you recommend a good book for people who want to learn how to use Word
better. Should I get Word for Dummies or is there anything else better on
the market?

Regards,

John

Do CTRL-Home to make sure that the cursor is located exactly at the
beginning of the document, or at the leftmost position of the first cell of
the table in your document.
Hit Enter, this should add an empty paragraph just above the table. If it
adds a paragraph mark inside the cell instead, do CTRL-Z to undo and then do
Table menu > Split Table.

"Show All" displays on-printable characters, or proof-reader characters, as
you call them, and is activated by clicking on the ¶ button on the standard
toolbar. Seeing the ¶ for paragraph mark, dots for spaces, arrows for tabs,
etc. can help you make you document more efficient and help you see why you
sometimes have seemingly un-erasable white space.
Personally, I always work with "Show All" on.

As for a Word book, sorry, can't help you, I never used one...

Try This:
www.vtc.com
for about $30 a month you can get online video training for Word and other
common programs.

John,

If paste a table into a new Word document and then want to position the
cursor above it just pares CTRL+Shift+Enter.

You can send that $30.00 per month to me and I will try to answer all your
questions ;-)

Gentlemen:

It worked. If you go Control>>Home and then do either Enter or
Control>>Shift>>Enter, you obtain the cursor over the chart. Now I have to
figure out why there is a box around the images that you copy from the web
and paste into a Word document that you can't type into. That is, it is hard
to get the cursor to show immediately above, below, or adjacent to a
pasted-image in Word. Puzzling.

Regards,

John
