how to type (R) instead of ® in excel?

Joe,

There are two option. The first is to type (R) and let it convert to ® and
then press CTRL+Z to change it back to (R) and then type the rest of the
cell contents before pressing ENTER. The other option is to go to the Tools
menu, choose "Auto Correct" and remove the (r) item from the list. Note that
this second method will remove the auto correct option for all Office
applications, not just Excel.

You can type a decimal in front of it first.

..(R) will then display as .(R) then simply edit the cell and delete the
period.
