disable it is to choose "Use Insert key for paste" or to go through
Customize and unassign it. I would definitely not want it disabled.

I'm guessing that somehow the option 'Typing replaces selected text'
has been turned off. This option is normally selected.
Word Options, Advanced tab, first option under Edit (Alt+F, I, A).
Alternatively, you may mean that you want to use OverType mode? Again,
as in previous versions, you double-click 'OVERTYPE' in the Status Bar.
But as in Word 2007, this option is not on by default, so you need to
right-click in the Status Bar and choose the Overtype option for the
option to appear.
Terry said:Then it is a change. In Word (2010) Options, Advanced tab under the
EDIT grouping it says 'Use Insert key to control Overtype mode'. This
is unchecked by default.
The Insert Key for Paste is gone and there another option beneath the
above to turn on Overtype mode (permanently).

Jay Freedman said:Terry, now that you've mentioned it, I see the same thing. I think you
should file it in Connect as a bug, which I'll support -- although I'd bet
it'll be closed with "as designed". :-(
Just what we need, another FAQ.
