You have to edit the registry to fix this. The block is often created by
security patches and things like that.
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/esecup/getexe.htm Oh, I see there are some
tools so you don't have to actually dive into the registry yourself.
If you're not really a computer buff, I'm surprised you're running the
64-bit version. I believe the fix will be the same, though.
You know, it just occurred to me you said you have to save the files to your
harddrive before opening them. (Sometimes Outlook actually blocks the
attachment, and you don't even have access to it to save to your harddrive.
That's what the fix above is for.) It's actually a good idea to save
attachments to your harddrive before opening them, so your antivirus can
kick in and scan them. But you can try this to get around that:
1. Open My Computer
2. On the Tools menu click Folder Options
3. On the File Types tab select the file extension you want to change.
4. Click Advanced.
5. In the Edit File Type dialog enable the "Confirm open after download"
check box.
6. OK your way back out.
