Golly, there are a lot of people who have Office uninstall and install
problems because they lack a CD! I can agree with software ownership issue
for installations, but not for removals...
I am trying to rehab an older laptop to be just an EI7/Word/Excel machine.
It is running XP Pro sp2 and all updates are applied. It also has Office
2000 Pro installed. Unfortunately, this (Toshiba Portege 3440CT) small
laptop has only a 6GB disk drive (and 128MB of RAM)! I have uninstalled all
of the applications that I don't need, which managed to free up some disk
space. Office 2000 is being ornrey, however.
When I go to Control Panel | Add Remove Software | Office 2000 Pro, it gives
me a checklist of the Office applications that are installed. If I UNcheck
Access and PowerPoint, but leave the rest of the application checkmarks
alone, it asks for the original CDs. Of course, they are long gone. It does
not make sense that CDs are needed to remove something. Am I doing something
wrong? I do have Office 2003 and 2007 licenses and CDs for my other PCs.
Would using one of these allow me to uninstall some, but not all, of the 2000
apps without installing 2003 or 2007?
Also, will uninstalling PowerPoint and Access 2000 free up any disk space?
Maybe I should just leave them alone...
Thanks!
