how to unlock a Word file seen as being edited by another

Hi Paul,

There's a leftover temporary file in the folder that you need to
delete. See http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/LockedFiles.htm for
instructions. (The explanation of your problem is in the
second-to-last paragraph of the article.)

Hi Jay,

I deleted all the tmp files in the folder but that did not resolve the
issue. I still have the same problem. I cannot open the MSWord file in
question. I would like to add that the file in question contains check boxes.

Please let me know how I can resolve this problem because this file is part
of a urgent project that I need to complete ASAP.

Have you restarted Windows? Often this is the last step required to release
the file.

I have reboooted the system several times. I have dowloaded the updates
that were suggested by Microsoft after having sent them the error message
and restarted the system. But none of these steps have fixed the problem.
