How to unlock the microsoft XP word for editing a new document page:see below

dear sir ,
I got an error message when I wanted to edit on a new page
/document of microsoft words,the OS is Windows XP.
The error messager on pressing a key was that " the command
is not available that the document is not open for
editing".
I don`t know how to unlock the stuff so that I can edit on
a fresh page, I want to type something .

What version of Word? If it's Word 2000 or 2002, has it been activated? See
