how to update a field to include leading zeros?

I import numbers into my table that ranges from 1-2 characters long. After
importing I need to update those fields containing these numbers to include
leading zeroes so that my field size is 7 characters. Is there a way to
create a query or change the field properties where any remaining character
space is automatically filled with leading zeroes?
