how to update links inside powerpoint slideshow

I have a Powerpoint Slideshow, being used as a status page. It links to Other
PowerPoint Slideshows, and Excel Spreadsheets. Apparently, the slideshow in
not updating as linked information is changing. Is there a way
progammatically to refresh the slideshow at intervals. Please and Thanks.
