How to update Office ME w/out disks

Hi,

Office 2000 ME came installed on my desktop PC when I
purchased it. I've tried to install the first Office 2000
service pack, but the installation process asks for either
a disk to be loaded, or a folder to be pointed to. Since
I don't have the disks, I have to assume that somewhere on
my PC are the necessary files to allow me to update
Office. Unfortunately, I don't have a clue where to begin
looking for these files. I also assume there should be a
standard location.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Marty.

What make and model of PC did you get? Very few come with the full
Microsoft Office installed, and I've never heard of "Office 2000 ME".
Perhaps your PC had the Microsoft Works Suite, which included the
then-current version of MS Word, perhaps Word 2000, but not the rest of
Office (Access, Excel, etc.).

Check with the maker/vendor of your PC to verify that it, in fact, came with
the full Office Suite, and whether it was the Standard, Professional, Small
Business, or some other Office package. Also check whether it was Office
2000, Office XP, or another version.

Post that information here and I'm sure you'll get some help.

Check my fix solution to Steve's "data1.msi" posting on
11/12. This will work for Windows Installer versions 1.1
and earlier. By running a cleanup utility, I was able to
uninstall Office 2000 Professional (I didn't have the
disks). I then installed Office 2000 Premium.

Hi Marty,

The PC supplier should have provided the original
MS Office software CDs and should be able to provide
replacements for you (although it's not always easy
to find someone in the larger suppliers who knows that <g>)
