How to use/edit a template in Word97?

I downloaded "House for sale flyer with photo, map, and floor layout"
template (Word97+) fro
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010014361033.aspx?CategoryID=CT101466191033&av=ZWD000
and (in Word) I can modify the text as desired, but attempting to edit or
change the images leaves me with only the string
{ EMBED PhotoshopElements.Image.2 }
when attempting a replacement image, or
{ EMBED Word.Picture.8 }
when right-clicking and just going through the Word image editor without
making any changes - in either case, there is no longer an image displayed in
Word (not even in Print-Preview).

So... how do I change the pictures?

In Word 2002 and 2003, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the
boxes for "All", "Hidden text", and "Field codes" | Print tab | uncheck
the boxes for "Hidden text" and "Field codes" | OK. There should be
similar options in Word 97.

Your suggestions removed the field codes (which didn't really bother me) and
I was about to say that it had no effect on display of pictures/ graphics...
- but on a second try, I found that Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck
Show : Field Codes DID result in pictures appearing again!

Many thanks!
