How to use Enterprise template

Jesper Berg

Hi

According to the MS PS Admin guide any saved changes to the Enterprise
Global should be reflected in the default template you get when your Project
Pro is connected to PS.
I made changes in the Enterprise Global but I don't see them in the default
template.
I'm hvaing trouble with "missing task assignments" in the PS - this could be
a result of the missing Enterprise template.
Any hints on how to use the Enterprise template? I can't browse to it and it
doesn't show up on the Enterprise tab when I select New Project - from
template.

The Enterprise Global template is the "library" of your organization's
enterprise objects, such as Fields, Tables, Filters, Groups, Reports, Views,
etc. It also sets your organization's default Currency setting for costing
projects. That's the limit of what it does.

To open the Enterprise Global file, click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open
Enterprise Global. You must have administrator permissions to do so. Hope
this helps.

Hi Dale

Thanks for the answer.
I know what the Enterprise template does for me, but as far as I can read in
the Admin guide this template SHOULD be the default template chosen for me
when I select "New project" (my Project Pro being connected to the PS) - but
it is not. I can't even find it - neither on my machine nor on the server.
How can I open an Enterprise template and create a project based on it?

I think you may be misunderstanding the Project Server Administrator's
Guide. It is true that the Enterprise Global file is loaded into memory
every time a user logs into Project Server through Microsoft Project
Professional, but here's what happens:

1. The software loads the user's Global.mpt file into memory
2. The software loads the Enterprise Global File into memory
3. The software merges the two files into a single Merged Global file

If there are any objects in the Global.mpt file that have the same name as
enterprise objects in the Enterprise Global file, the system replaces the
local objects with the enterprise objects. The loading of the Enterprise
Global file has little to do with the creation of the new blank project that
appears when you launch Microsoft Project Professional. Again, the only
purpose of the Enterprise Global file is to serve as your organization's
library of enterprise objects and to control your organization's default
currency.

Before you can open an enterprise project template, someone must actually
create one. Has anyone in your organization actually created and saved an
enterprise project in your system? If not, here's how:

1. Create a project
2. Click File - Save
3. Click the Version drop-down list and select Template
4. Name the template and click the Save button

If you already have enterprise project templates saved in your Project
Server database, then you can do the following to open one:

1. Click File - New
2. Click the On My Computer link in the New Project sidepane
3. Click the Enterprise Template tab in the Templates dialog
4. Select an enterprise project template and click OK

Hope this helps.
