How to use Excel as a CRM tool

I was told that I could manage data with Excel that would be related to
customer information but I have no idea how to get started. Does anyone have
any advice?

Ask the person who told you?

I suppose you can use Excel for just about anything, including CRM, but it
wouldn't be my first choice. Unless you are really good at Excel (and don't
value your time very highly), it won't be long before the development in
Excel costs you more than commercially available products like Goldmine.
